We have changed the format of operative induction codes to make them more memorable. We have also added QR code for the induction code.
Updated format
The new induction code format will be:
- The operative’s initials
- Followed by two sets of three random characters
Each section is separated with a hyphen to make remembering the induction code easier.
For example, an induction code generated for operative ‘John Smith’ would be JS-8HG-S32.
This change will not be made to anyone that has already been issued an induction code and all existing codes will still work on new sites.
Induction QR Code
QR codes will be generated for all induction codes issued to operatives. This code will be emailed to the operative directly once they have completed their induction.
The induction code will always be visible below their photo, on the operatives summary page.
To view an operatives induction QR code follow the below steps.
Users > Operatives or Site Operatives > Organisation (Select from drop down) > Select Name > View QR code
The QR code can be scanned on site, instead of typing in the induction code manually. If a webcam is plugged into the enrolment machine, a "Scan QR code" button will appear next to the box you'd usually type the induction code into.
Local System > Code > Use QR code (button)
The operative can then show the QR code on their smartphone and the webcam can scan the code.
Impact
All existing induction codes will still be valid. This change only affects new codes being issued.
Anyone responsible for the operative induction process should be made aware of this update, so they recognise the new format and understand that both old and new formats will be valid.
Benefits
- Smaller more memorable induction codes for operatives.
New Features (Online Portal)
-
As an additional enhancement, Biosite software release 8.142.0 will include the ability to generate an operative induction code as a QR code.
-
When an operative completes their induction, the email sent containing their code will also include that code in a QR code format. This QR code will also be available on the operative's profile summary page.
These features will be released in Biosite Version 8.142.0 (18/08/2022). To find out what version of Biosite you are running on your portal, please follow this link.
